A heritage craft of the Democratic Republic of Congo originating in the 17th century, persists as raffia fibers, dyed in shades of ivory, brown, clay red, and indigo blue, are woven into a textile, then cut and appliqued into striking patterns. A textile design known as Kuba Cloth. This is known as the traditional technique, but occasionally a rarity surfaces such as this, including stitched applique, resist dye edges and cowrie shells and fringe. Rustic and modern, this handsome pillow was created in the ibu studio, sewn and backed in a classic camel silk.
